Family Innovation Fund
Vulnerable children, young people and families are best supported by those services who already work with them, such as children’s centres, schools, GPs. Should a difficulty occur and those services cannot respond appropriately, a little bit of extra help can go a long way.
The Family Innovation Fund has been developed by Essex County Council and its partners to provide an opportunity for voluntary and community groups to resource early help services and to establish a wide range of innovative projects , from coaching to peer support groups and 1:1 workers, to counselling and mediation, to support children, young people and families to prevent social and emotional isolation, aggressive behaviour, the break down of family relationships and to resolve conflict.
The primary outcome of these services is to improve family stability by enabling positive behaviour and relationships and connecting people with their communities. Requests for support can be made where help is needed for; risky, aggressive and challenging behaviours, conflict within a family, relationship breakdowns, emotional distress and social isolation.
Family Innovation Fund projects complement existing Essex County Council and partner organisations’ services that work with families with a high level of need, and where possible prevent the need for specialist and intensive interventions.
All funded projects will need to secure outcomes identified through each geographical (quadrant) needs assessment and be targeted at children and young people aged 5-19 years and their families.
The only restriction to accessing these services is that the person being referred is not already working with specialist support services such as Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Service, Family Solutions or Social Care, because FIF Early Help services are aiming to prevent the need for a referral to these services.
Parents and young people (over 13) may also self-refer.
