The Big Lottery Fund and Department of Digital, Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) have announced the 20 partnerships taking part in the first stage of the Placed Based Social Action programme launched last October and the One Colchester Strategic Group is one of them.
The Placed Based Social Action programme is funded using £4.5 million of Government and National Lottery money.
It aims to support communities to put social action at the heart of plans that make a positive difference in the local area. It gives people the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the design and delivery of local services by bringing together communities, local authorities, public sector organisations, service providers, civil society organisations and businesses to address local priorities.
One Colchester is a local strategic partnership that has existed since 2014 to bring together organisations and individuals to develop multi-agency responses to local issues. The group includes the Chief Executives and Senior Managers of Colchester Council, Director of Public Health at Essex Council, NEE Clinical Commissioning Group, Anglian Community Enterprise (local community healthcare delivery agent), Social Care Teams, Colchester Borough Homes, educational institutions, voluntary and community groups, businesses and relevant partners.
Its aim is to develop Colchester Borough as a Dementia Friendly Community in response to current low dementia diagnosis rates (Colchester is an outlier in NHS statistics), increasing potential number of diagnoses (JSNA estimates an increase of 70%) and develop social action to respond to the anticipated additional demand on existing services.
Tracy Rudling, Chair of One Colchester commented: “What a wonderful accolade that our leadership team has been chosen to support people’s voices and choices about how they would like to develop dementia services for themselves. We are excited to be part of the Place Based Social Action Programme and its potential investment to our place. People need to be at the heart of all the decision making taking this project forward and truly co-produce this exciting journey for Colchester."
In early 2019, up to 10 of these 20 partnerships will go on to be awarded funding of up to £240,000 for three years to put their plans into action. Following this, up to five of these partnerships will be awarded further funding of up to £255,000 to develop and expand their plans for another three years to December 2024.
