Get more from the data revolution

The data revolution, in particular data analytics, has had a huge influence on our day to day experiences from the personalised ads, news content and product recommendations that we encounter online, to the new approaches we’re taking to design and create public services.

Much of the information available for public sector authorities comes in the form of unstructured, text data. The importance of such data will continue to grow, and artificial intelligence and other techniques will be crucial to unlocking data at scale.

This Knowing Data seminar, taking place on Monday 13 November, will present a unique opportunity to delve further into the benefits that applying machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) to analysing unstructured text data can generate for the public sector.

Presented by our Chief Scientific Advisor, Slava Mikhaylov - Professor of Data Science and Public Policy at the University of Essex, this 90 minute session will provide an overview of NLP and recent and emerging technological developments in AI and big data that can help drive efficiencies in public service delivery.

The seminar will cover the basic principles of using text as data, focusing on specific examples from public services and will explore using NLP for automatic analysis of user reviews data.

Join us Monday 13 November between 17:00 and 18:30, The Saracens Head Hotel, 3 High Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1BE.
